Frequently Asked Questions

How close to the beach are you?

The house sits directly next to the beach; we are so close you can see dolphins swimming by from the sunroom with no binoculars needed.

Do you allow pets?

We allow 1 dog with an extra $100 pet fee applied to your total cost.  In addition to us requiring visiting pets to be well-behaved, they also need to be up-to-date on all vaccinations and their flea treatment.  We also ask that you crate your pup whenever it's left in the house alone and we'd also prefer them to be crated at night if possible.

Please note: any damage, including leaving fleas, that is caused by a visiting pet will necessitate a deduction from the deposit in the amount needed to return our home to it's former condition.

We love pets, and we assume yours is wonderful, but our fur-kids can be unpredictable in an unfamiliar setting and we want our guests staying after you to arrive to a house in good condition. We appreciate your understanding.

Is there a lot to do on Alligator Point?

Most people come to Alligator Point to get away from the crowds and all the touristy things you find at the more well-known beaches; as a result you won't find a chain restaurant, miniature golf, souvenir store, etc within 30 minutes.  However, on Alligator Point you will find quiet beaches; lots of wildlife; seashells galore; and amazing fishing, shrimping, & crabbing.  Additionally, there is a kayak rental business and boat charters at the Marina along with a seasonal Tiki Bar just a couple of minutes from the house.  15 minutes away you'll find a quaint aquarium and family owned restaurants in Panacea.  Go a little bit farther to Crawfordville or Carrabelle and you'll find a lot more stores and restaurants, but still with the small town feel.  Please refer to the section called "The Area" in the Things To Know page for a bit more detail.

Lastly, at night, being away from all the city lights, you'll find Alligator Point is a great place for sky gazing.

What kind of wildlife can I find in Alligator Point?

Since the Ochlockonee River feeds into the gulf right by Alligator Point, its minerals attract a lot of fish and other sea creatures, so Alligator Point is renowned for both inshore and offshore fishing. Inshore you'll find redfish, speckled trout, flounder, tripletail, black drum, pompano, and Spanish mackerel. Go offshore fishing and you may catch yourself a grouper, mackerel, snapper, hogfish, amberjack, jack crevalle, cobia, mahi mahi, blackfin tuna, yellowfin tuna, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, and wahoo. Boat a little further out and try to reel in a marlin or sailfish. Additionally, people have been know to cast for shrimp right off our beach or wade out a bit and find yourself some clams and scallops. Oh, and don't forget about the crabs... blue, hermit, ghost, fiddler, and horseshoe crabs -- we got them all.   NOTE: the Gulf Shore Marine Laboratory aquarium in Panacea is a great place to go to learn about all the  sea life in the area.

And of course birds... Many birds stay year round like the reddish egret, black skimmer, pelican, American oystercatcher, and several types of plowers. Migratory birds also make this their home during the winter months at which time you're likely to see the dowitcher, marbled godwit, red knot, caspian terns, red breasted mergansers, and bufflehead.   And recently a neighbor spotted a bald eagle -- not sure how long he'll stay in the area, but you might get lucky and spot him.

Alligator Point is also teeming with land animals including the Florida black bear, white-tailed deer, coyotes, bobcats, and even a few white squirrels which you'll often see near Mariner Circle off Alligator Drive as you come into "The Point".

Saving the best for last (IMHO), in addition to the dolphins and otters that are attracted to the area because of all the fish and shellfish in our waters, sea turtles nest on our beaches from May through October . You can find  loggerhead, green, and the smallest, rarest, and most endangered sea turtle, the Kemp Ridley.

When is turtle season?  What are the rules?

Turtle season starts May 1st and ends October 31st.  If nests are discovered by the house, they will be marked.  In the event of a nest, if you have a dog, they will not be allowed on the beach in that area.  Also, lights from the house will need to be blocked by curtains at night and only flashlights with red lights will be allowed on the beach (you'll find one in the drawer of the TV console.)

Additionally, we are asked to fill in any holes that are made and remove all items from the beach when done for the day.  Remember to leave the beach clean, flat, and dark.

Are parties allowed?

Because our home is in a quiet residential neighborhood, parties are not allowed. If you plan to invite a few friends to visit you while at our home, please note you must get prior permission and state the exact number visiting and for how long so when neighbors contact us about a "party" going on at our house, we'll be equipped to answer any questions about who is there -- we are renting our home to you, not your friends. Therefore, no overnight guests are allowed that are not listed on the reservation.

Where is the closet grocery store?

The closet grocery store is an IGA in Sopchoppy 30 minutes away.  However, it's quite small, so we recommend going 35 minutes to Crawfordville where there is a Winn Dixie & Walmart.  There's also an IGA in Carrabelle which also 35 minutes away, but it's a bit larger than the one in Sopchoppy and there are other shops and things to do in Carrabelle.

In Alligator Point there is basically nothing but a marina, seasonal Tiki bar, and houses. In Panacea which is 15 - 20 minutes away, there are a couple of convenience stores for snacks & beverages and a Dollar General that does carry some groceries including a small amount of produce, but we would not consider it an actual grocery store.

Tallahassee is an hour away if you want lots of choices.

What is the cost to rent The Fun Flamingo Bungalow?

Prices vary depending on the season, but our rates are very competitive with other Alligator Point vacation rentals. Check us out on AirBNB or Vrbo.
